COMMUNITY ROUNDUP—Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort of Chabad at La Costa reports that through some lucky bidding, the shul has acquired 3,360 square feet in modular space. One set is six modular buildings joined together forming a rectangle measuring 72 feet by 40 feet, and the other is 480 square feet of men's and women's bathroom facilities. The winning bid? $19,100 plus fees, for about $22,000 out the door." All this will have to be stored elsewhere until permits fromthe City of Carlsbad can be obtained, Eilfort reports.

Young Lauren Levinson gets to play a reindeer in Act 1 and a lollipop in Act II of the California Ballet's production of The Nutcracker which will be playing at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Dec. 11 through 13, and at the San Diego Civic Center December 18-22. Her parents, James and Leslie Levinson, report that Lauren, 10, is "very excited." ... How's this for inter-religious spirit? Actor Albert Dayan, who is Jewish, will be featured in Red Rider Nails the Cleveland Street Kid (AKA A Christmas Story) and My House, two Christmas short stories to be read in Write Out Loud's holiday program at 7 p.m., December 14, at Old Town Theatre. On the same program, Paul Maley, who is Christian, will read The Peddler's Gift, a Jewish oriented short story.
